As the library and archive of the Archbishops of Canterbury and the central bodies of the Church of England, Lambeth Palace Library has a strong collection of materials dating from the Reformation. This was one of the most tumultuous and significant periods in the history of the western Church, and saw the formation of the Church of England as we know it today.
From their foundation in 1964, the Friends of Lambeth Palace Library have greatly enriched our holdings of significant sixteenth- and seventeenth-century material. These items have proved invaluable to scholars of the Reformation. They can also be used to help the Church of England understand its own past, and the traditions it has inherited.
